Elgeeco Squirrel Trap with floor door open
Elgeeco Refuge Cage entry point closed

Refuge Cages can be clad in wood  to provide a refuge box

The Elgeeco floor door hinges open to release animals and for the attachment of the optional refuge cage

Grey squirrels are vulnerable to cold and wet weather and they may not survive if held captive for a long period or overnight in any open trap.

A covered Elgeeco Refuge Cage attached below the floor door provides a darkened weatherproof compartment into which a captured squirrel can retreat if it wishes.

Use of the optional Refuge Cage is recommended when traps cannot be checked more than twice a day during periods of bad weather or before nightfall.

In areas where red squirrels may be present, always provide nesting material and check the trap frequently.

A Refuge Cage is simple to secure to the bottom of the trap using a short length of plastic coated spring wire as used for net curtains.  The tension in the wire will also hold a bin-liner in place.
